Where Should a Gulf Collector Buy a Pre-Owned Luxury Watch in 2026?

For a collector in Riyadh or Dubai, the price on a pre-owned listing is only final once import duty and VAT are paid. Saudi Arabia adds 5 percent customs duty and 15 percent VAT to a watch imported from outside the GCC, 20.75 percent of its CIF value, and the UAE adds 10.25 percent. The Luxury Closet in Dubai includes duties and taxes in its prices for GCC delivery, which is why it leads this guide.

Retail allocation is the reason most serious Gulf purchases happen on the secondary market. Patek Philippe runs waitlists of two to five years for Nautilus and Aquanaut references at most GCC points of sale, as set out in our Patek Philippe guide. Chrono24 and Bob’s Watches remain the international reference points, each with different terms for protection, returns and warranty.

Landed price, buyer protection, return window. Those three tests, applied in that order, separate a good listing from a good purchase for a buyer in the Gulf. This guide applies them to each platform and links to the detailed guide for each one.

Which Pre-Owned Platforms Should a Gulf Collector Know in 2026?

Why Does The Luxury Closet Lead for Buyers in Saudi Arabia and the UAE?

The Luxury Closet ships every watch from Dubai, and for delivery anywhere in the GCC its listed price already includes customs duty and taxes. Each piece is authenticated in-house by a team of more than 15 specialists and covered by a lifetime authenticity guarantee. Its watch inventory, delivery times, payment options, condition grades and selling service are covered in our The Luxury Closet guide.

A listing above its WatchCharts average is not automatically the more expensive purchase. WatchCharts averages and international asking prices exclude Gulf import costs, so a watch bought in Europe or the United States and delivered to Riyadh can end up costing more than a higher Dubai price. Each month, DialEast Picks selects watches from The Luxury Closet listed within 15 percent of the WatchCharts average for their reference.

The November 2026 DialEast Picks run from a Rolex Datejust 41 ref. 126334 at SAR 53,812 to an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo at SAR 223,358, each listed by The Luxury Closet in Dubai with duties and taxes included for GCC delivery. Prices are shown in riyals, dollars and dirhams, with the gap to the WatchCharts average on every card. View current listings at The Luxury Closet.

Chrono24 is a marketplace of professional dealers and private sellers. Its Buyer Protection holds the payment in escrow for 14 days after delivery on dealer purchases and for 7 days on private purchases. Buyers have a 14-day right of withdrawal from professional dealers and none from private sellers. Chrono24 notes that displayed prices may exclude customs fees, taxes, shipping and insurance.

Bob’s Watches services watches at its headquarters in Newport Beach, California, under a one-year warranty from the invoice date. That warranty is limited to US-based customers, and the three-day return window applies to online sales only. For a buyer in Riyadh or Dubai, every Bob’s Watches purchase is final on delivery.

What Does It Cost to Import a Pre-Owned Watch into Saudi Arabia or the UAE?

Saudi Arabia applies the 5 percent GCC common external tariff to watches imported from outside the union, then 15 percent VAT on value plus duty. On a CIF value of SAR 100,000, that is SAR 5,000 in duty and SAR 15,750 in VAT, SAR 20,750 in total. The final classification under HS heading 91.01 or 91.02 rests with ZATCA or a customs broker. The documents ZATCA asks for, what changes when a watch is bought within the GCC and a landed-cost calculator for Riyadh and Dubai are in our guide to buying in Saudi Arabia.

The UAE charges 5 percent customs duty on CIF value and 5 percent import VAT on value plus duty. On AED 100,000, that is AED 5,000 in duty and AED 5,250 in VAT, or 10.25 percent, before courier, clearance and storage fees. Dubai Customs treats e-commerce imports as commercial goods.

Import costs change the arithmetic of value retention. An imported watch in Saudi Arabia has to appreciate by more than 20.75 percent before resale covers its landed cost, a threshold set against WatchCharts brand performance in our value retention data.

What Should You Check Before Paying for a Pre-Owned Watch?

Every platform in this guide states its own authentication standard, but the serial number, papers and finishing of a specific watch remain the buyer’s responsibility. Our authentication guide sets out the checks in order, from documents to movement. Reference-level detail for the most traded brands is in the Rolex collector’s guide and the Audemars Piguet guide.

The return window decides how much time that check gets. The Luxury Closet allows three days on eligible items and Chrono24 dealers 14 days, while international sales at Bob’s Watches are final. A watch that arrives without its box, papers or original parts should be raised with the platform inside that window, not after it.

Payment method matters as much as the platform. Chrono24 releases the payment to the seller only after its escrow period, while The Luxury Closet charges international card payments in US dollars, so the amount on a Gulf card statement depends on the bank’s exchange rate.

For collectors in the Gulf, The Luxury Closet in Dubai lists authenticated pre-owned luxury watches with duties and taxes included in the price for GCC delivery. Elsewhere, pre-owned examples are listed on Chrono24 and Bob’s Watches.

Where is the safest place to buy a pre-owned luxury watch in Saudi Arabia?

For a buyer in Saudi Arabia, The Luxury Closet in Dubai includes customs duty and taxes in its prices for GCC delivery and authenticates each watch in-house with a lifetime authenticity guarantee. A watch bought from outside the GCC adds 5 percent duty and 15 percent VAT, 20.75 percent of its CIF value. Whatever the platform, the serial number, papers and finishing should be checked within the return window.

Do you pay customs duty when buying from The Luxury Closet?

No, not for delivery within the GCC. The Luxury Closet states that duties and taxes are included in the item price for GCC countries and that no additional customs fee is applied. Buyers outside the GCC pay customs, duties and VAT at clearance in their own country.

How does Chrono24 protect buyers?

Chrono24 holds the payment in escrow for 14 days after the buyer receives the watch on dealer purchases, and for 7 days on private purchases. Professional dealers are subject to a 14-day right of withdrawal, while private sellers are not. Chrono24 Certified inspection is available for watches from certain brands priced from $5,000, for an additional $249.

Is the Bob’s Watches warranty valid for buyers in the Gulf?

No. Bob’s Watches limits its one-year warranty to US-based customers, and its return policy states that international sales are final. Repairs under warranty are carried out at its headquarters in Newport Beach, California.

How much does it cost to import a luxury watch into the UAE?

The UAE charges 5 percent customs duty on the CIF value and 5 percent import VAT on value plus duty, a combined 10.25 percent. On a CIF value of AED 100,000, that is AED 10,250 before courier, clearance and storage fees. Saudi Arabia charges 20.75 percent on the same basis.
