Buying Below the Market in the Gulf
Saudi Arabia adds about 20.75 percent of the CIF value in customs duty and VAT to an imported watch, and the UAE about 10.25 percent. On a watch with a CIF value of $100,000, that is about $20,750 in Saudi Arabia before the watch has gained anything in value. A pre-owned watch bought within the GCC with duties already in the price avoids that cost at the border.
